Chapter 4: The Fall of the House of Vance

Chapter 4: The Fall of the House of Vance

The dawn over the city was cold and gray, but inside the main boardroom of Vance Logistics Headquarters, the air was white-hot with tension. Lord Arthur Vance sat at the head of the mahogany conference table, surrounded by the fourteen board members who controlled the multi-billion-dollar corporation.

"Given my son’s recent... emotional instability following the tragic cancellation of his wedding," Arthur said, his voice dripping with a calculated, patronizing sorrow, "I am calling for an emergency vote to permanently revoke his executive authority and transfer all primary shares into a voting trust managed by myself."

"I wouldn't call for that vote just yet, Father."

The boardroom doors swung open with a resounding, thunderous echo. Julian walked into the room, his clothes slightly dusty from the previous night's escape, but his eyes were bright with a lethal, unbending clarity. Behind him stepped Detective Torres and a team of federal marshals carrying armored digital storage cases.

And right beside Julian, walking with her chin lifted high and her posture completely unyielding, was Maria.

"Julian! How dare you disrupt this board meeting with public authorities!" Arthur bellowed, standing up from his chair, his face twisting into a mask of pure, aristocratic rage. "You are making a fool of yourself! Security, escort my son to a medical evaluation facility immediately!"

"The security guards have already been disarmed and detained by federal agents, Arthur," Julian said calmly, stepping up to the center of the table. He took the encrypted state department drive from his pocket and slid it into the central media console.

The massive LED projection screens on the wall instantly flickered to life. Instead of corporate financial growth charts, the screen displayed thousands of pages of unredacted maritime manifests, offshore bank accounts in Panama, and the video-recorded confession of Henderson—the courier who had been arrested by the police just two hours prior.

"Arthur Vance," Detective Torres announced, stepping forward with a pair of heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate treason, international chemical smuggling, laundering the proceeds of a criminal enterprise, and conspiracy to commit the first-degree murder of your own son."

The board members looked at the screens, then at Arthur, their faces turning completely pale. The powerful tycoon looked around the room like a trapped animal, his chest heaving as his entire empire turned to ash right in front of his eyes.

"This is a conspiracy! You have no proof that I signed those manifests!" Arthur stammered, backing away toward the panoramic window.

"We have the physical ledgers you kept hidden in the conservatory wall, Lord Arthur," Maria said, her clear voice ringing through the silent boardroom. "The ones you thought I was too ignorant to notice while I was cleaning your house. Every Tuesday night, I recorded the serial numbers of the seals you broke. The police recovered them from your safe an hour ago."

Arthur looked at Maria, his eyes wide with absolute, venomous shock. He had spent years treating her like an invisible piece of furniture, a non-entity who didn't possess the intelligence to understand his world. And now, that very invisibility had become his undoing.

As the federal marshals pinned Arthur’s arms behind his back, clicking the cold steel around his wrists, he looked at Julian with tears of rage. "I built this for you! I did all of this to ensure our family would rule this industry for another century!"

"You didn't build an empire for me, Father," Julian said, his voice dropping into a quiet, heartbreaking finality. "You built a prison of blood and lies. And today, the doors are locked."
