Chapter 4: The Boardroom Coup

Chapter 4: The Boardroom Coup
The grand conference hall on the top floor of the Wren Industries tower was filled with the low hum of nervous energy. Sixty major shareholders, corporate lawyers, and financial journalists sat along the massive mahogany tables. At the head of the room sat Vivian Hartwell and her father, Charles—a silver-haired, imposing man whose cold eyes swept over the room with absolute confidence.

Vivian looked towards the double doors as they opened. Her smile flickered for a fraction of a second when she saw Gabriel walk in, dressed in a flawless charcoal suit. But her eyes widened in complete shock when she saw Chloe walking beside him, supported by his arm, her arm in a visible sling but her posture elegant, unyielding, and defiant.
"Gabriel," Charles Hartwell said, standing up and smoothing his tie. "I don't think this is the appropriate venue for guests who are currently involved in a pending legal dispute with our family."
"This isn't a dispute, Charles. It’s an execution," Gabriel said, his voice echoing through the state-of-the-art sound system of the room. He guided Chloe to a seat at the table before turning to face the projection screen at the front of the hall.
Vivian stood up, her silver rings clicking against the table as she tried to maintain her composure. "Gabriel, stop this theatrical display. The board is ready to vote on the merger. We have the majority shares."
"You had the majority shares, Vivian," Gabriel countered smoothly. He tapped a command onto his smartphone, and the massive digital screen behind the podium flashed to life.
Instead of the projected financial growth charts for the merger, the screen displayed a multi-layered, interactive map of the offshore laundering accounts, complete with transaction IDs, IP addresses traced directly to Vivian’s personal terminal, and the forged authorization letters bearing Gabriel's falsified signatures.

"What is the meaning of this?" a senior board member demanded, standing up and pointing at the screen.
"The meaning is that the Hartwell family has been using our joint shipping lines to launder illicit capital for the past three years," Gabriel announced, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. "They manufactured corporate debt to force Wren Industries into this merger, intending to absorb our clean assets to cover up their insolvency. And when Chloe Arden discovered the truth in their private archive two nights ago, Vivian Hartwell pushed her down a grand staircase to silence her."
"That is a lie!" Vivian screamed, her aristocratic poise completely fracturing as she slammed her hands onto the table. "She’s a thief! She broke into my home! There is no proof of any assault!"
"Actually, there is," Chloe said, standing up from her seat, her voice calm, clear, and cutting through the panic in the room. She pulled a small remote from her pocket and clicked a button.
The screen shifted to a high-definition video feed. It was recorded by a concealed nanny cam hidden within the decorative greenery of the Hartwell estate’s upper landing—a security measure Vivian’s own mother had installed months prior and forgotten about.
The video was crystal clear. It showed Vivian Hartwell using both hands to press down hard on Chloe's shoulders, pushing her violently backward down the stairs. It showed the cold, calculated stare as Chloe tumbled down the marble steps, and it showed Vivian standing perfectly still, refusing to offer help as Chloe lay bleeding below.

The boardroom erupted into absolute chaos. Shareholders gasped, journalists began typing furiously, and several board members stood up in disgust, turning their backs on the Hartwell family.
Charles Hartwell slumped back into his leather chair, his face entirely gray, realizing that their family empire had just collapsed in a matter of seconds. Vivian stared at the screen, her lips trembling, her hands shaking violently against her designer dress. The trap had closed, and there was absolutely no escape.
The heavy mahogany doors at the back of the boardroom swung open. Detective Vance stepped into the room, flanked by four uniformed state police officers and two federal marshals.
"Vivian Hartwell. Charles Hartwell," Vance announced, his voice booming over the din. "You are both under arrest for federal racketeering, corporate fraud, forgery, and in the case of Vivian Hartwell, aggravated assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Step away from the table and put your hands behind your back."

As the handcuffs clicked around Vivian's wrists, she looked at Gabriel, her eyes filled with a desperate, pathetic fury. "Gabriel, please! You can't do this to me!"
Gabriel didn't answer. He simply stepped in front of Chloe, shielding her from Vivian’s gaze as the police led the disgraced heiress and her father away in chains, their corporate empire dismantled forever.
