Chapter 1: The Wrath of the Sovereign

Chapter 1: The Wrath of the Sovereign

The silence in the million-dollar mansion’s kitchen was thick enough to suffocate. Mr. Harrison Vance, a billionaire whose name alone could shift stock markets across the globe, stood completely frozen. His chest rose and fell in heavy, calculated breaths. His eyes, typically an unreadable, icy blue, were now fixed entirely on the floor. There, huddled in the darkest corner beside the industrial trash bin, was Maya. She was trembling so violently that her teeth clicked together, her small hands clutching a ceramic plate filled with literal scraps—hardened crusts of bread and a half-eaten piece of spoiled meat.
Standing just five feet away was Julian, the estate’s head manager. Julian’s face had drained of all color, transitioning from a flush of tyrannical arrogance to a sickly, pale white. He swallowed hard, his hands twitching at his sides as he realized his absolute authority over this household had just vanished in a single fraction of a second.
"Harrison... Mr. Vance," Julian stammered, his voice losing all its usual venom, replaced by a pathetic, high-pitched quiver. "This... this isn't what it looks like. The girl is incredibly clumsy. She broke a priceless Ming Dynasty vase in the west wing this morning. I was simply administering a standard disciplinary protocol. You cannot allow the staff to think they can destroy your property without consequences."
Harrison didn't look at Julian. He didn't even acknowledge that the man had spoken. Instead, his gaze remained anchored to Maya. Slowly, deliberately, Harrison reached up to the buttons of his bespoke, charcoal-gray Tom Ford suit jacket. He unbuttoned it with a terrifyingly calm precision, slipped it off his broad shoulders, and stepped forward.
Maya flinched, pulling her knees closer to her chest. She expected a blow. She expected to be screamed at for making a mess, for existing, for breathing. For the past three months, Julian had systematically broken her spirit, telling her every single day that she was nothing but a stray dog Harrison had dragged in out of charity, and that if she ever spoke a word to the master of the house, she would be thrown into the streets and blacklisted from every employment agency in the country.
Instead of a blow, something incredibly warm, heavy, and smelling faintly of expensive sandalwood and rain draped over her shivering shoulders. Harrison knelt on the cold, unforgiving tile floor—completely unbothered by the fact that his thousand-dollar trousers were pressing into the dirt and grease that Julian had forced Maya to clean on her hands and knees.
"Maya," Harrison said, his voice surprisingly deep, resonant, and laced with a rare, fierce gentleness. "Look at me."
Maya slowly lifted her tear-stained face. Her eyes were hollow, dark circles bruising the skin beneath them from weeks of sleep deprivation and starvation. "I'm... I'm sorry, Mr. Vance," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I didn't mean to... I'll clean it up. Please don't fire me. I need to send money to my mother's clinic. Please."
Harrison’s jaw clenched so tightly that a muscle ticked violently in his cheek. The sheer agony and terror in this young woman's voice broke something profound inside him. He had hired her because her resume spoke of a hardworking, honest student trying to support her ailing family. He had expected his highly paid estate manager to treat his staff with the utmost dignity. To find out that his home had become a house of horrors was a betrayal he could tolerate least of all.
"You have nothing to apologize for," Harrison said, his voice absolute. He reached out and gently took the plate of scraps from her hands, setting it aside on the floor. Then, with an effortless, fluid motion, he slipped his arms beneath her frail frame and lifted her entirely off the ground. She weighed almost nothing. The realization of how much weight she had lost under his own roof sent a wave of white-hot fury through his veins.
"Mr. Vance!" Julian stepped forward, his panic turning into desperation. "You cannot believe her! She is manipulative! She's been stealing from the pantry! I have documentation—"
Harrison finally turned his head. The look in his eyes was so predatory, so utterly devoid of mercy, that Julian instantly froze mid-sentence, his breath catching in his throat.
"If you speak another syllable in my presence, Julian," Harrison said, his tone dangerously low, vibrating with a quiet promise of destruction, "I will not wait for the police to arrive before I personally ensure you can never walk unassisted again."
Julian choked on his own breath, stepping back until his spine hit the stainless steel refrigerator.
Harrison didn't waste another second on the tyrant. He carried Maya out of the kitchen, leaving the shadows behind. He walked past the grand staircase, through the sprawling marble corridors, straight toward the private residential wing where no staff member—and certainly no manager—was ever permitted to go.
He carried her into the grand sunroom, placing her gently onto an oversized, plush velvet sofa. He immediately rang the estate's private emergency line. Within minutes, Dr. Evans, Harrison’s personal physician, arrived through the private entrance, carrying his medical bag, his expression grim upon receiving Harrison's urgent, icy command over the phone.
"Check her," Harrison ordered Dr. Evans, standing over the sofa like a protective shadow. "Malnutrition, psychological trauma, physical exhaustion. I want a full medical report, down to the exact calorie deficiency. And call Chef Marcus. Tell him to prepare a nutrient-rich, easily digestible meal immediately. If a single macro-nutrient is missing, I will hold everyone accountable."
"Right away, sir," Dr. Evans said, immediately setting to work.

Harrison stepped to the wide floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out over his vast estate. The storm outside was brewing, lightning flashing across the dark horizon, mirroring the tempest inside his own chest. He pulled out his phone and dialed a secure number.
"Arthur," Harrison said into the receiver, addressing his chief of global security. "Lock down the estate. No one leaves. Especially not Julian. Bring the legal team, the forensic accountants, and a tech sweep crew to the main house now. I want Julian’s entire life dismantled by sunrise."
