Chapter 6 - The Strategy of Miya Min

The confrontation at the Han Tower had cleared the internal field, but the external threat remained a gathering storm. By midnight, the Min Group had formally allied with the Moretti family—the old Italian syndicate that managed the eastern rail links—creating a combined front that threatened to strangle our distribution networks within forty-eight hours.

I returned to the Malibu safehouse at 1:30 AM.

The house was dark, save for the ambient security lights along the glass walls. I walked down the corridor to the master suite, expecting to find Amara asleep. Instead, I found her sitting at the long mahogany dining table, a single lamp illuminating a scattering of legal documents and printing manifests Jin-Woo had left behind.

Beside her sat a third cup of coffee, untouched and cold.

"You should be resting," I said softly, walking up behind her and placing my hands on her shoulders, feeling the tension locked inside her muscles.

"I can't sleep, Dae," she said, leaning her head back against my chest, her eyes looking up at me through the shadows. "Every time I close my eyes, I hear those jet engines on the tarmac. I hear that woman calling your name."

"Miya is part of the past now, Amara," I said, my lips brushing against her temple. "The board has broken the alignment. We are independent."

"But she’s not part of the past," Amara said, pulling a folded, cream-colored envelope from beneath the manifests. "A courier dropped this off at the outer security gate twenty minutes ago. It’s addressed to me. From her."

I took the envelope, my eyes narrowing as I recognized the elegant, gold-embossed seal of the Min family crest. I pulled out the single sheet of thick, scented paper inside.

Amara,

A man like Dae Han does not know how to live in a house with wood blocks and children's drawings. He is a predator who requires a cage built of high finance and political protection to survive the hunters in this city. I do not care about your past, and I do not care about your twins.

Tomorrow at 2:00 PM, I will be at the Pacific Room in the Beverly Hills Hotel. Come alone, Amara. Bring your daughters' birth certificates. Let us discuss the price of a permanent peace before my father turns your safehouse into a target.

- Miya Min

"She’s trying to buy the bloodline," I hissed, my hand crushing the paper into a tight ball. "She thinks she can negotiate with my family as if it’s a failed asset liquidation."

"She’s not trying to buy them, Dae," Amara said, standing up and turning to face me, her green eyes clear, sharp, and fierce. "She’s testing me. She wants to see if the woman who ran three years ago is still afraid of the shadow. And I’m going to go."

"No," I said, my voice dropping into an absolute refusal. "It’s a trap. Chairman Min’s security crews will have that hotel locked down from the basement to the roof. You don't step into their perimeter."

"I am not running anymore, Dae!" Amara shouted, her fingers locking around my wrists with a strength that surprised me. "I spent thirty-six months hiding in a trailer park, checking the locks every time a car slowed down on the road. I let my daughters sleep in a room that smelled of rust because I was afraid of your name. I am their mother. If this woman wants to talk about their future, she is going to look at me across that table and see that I am the one who owns the title."

I stared at her, the fierce, protective light in her green eyes matching the fire that had kept me alive through the dark years of her absence. She wasn't the fragile girl from the jasmine-scented apartment anymore; she was a lioness who had raised two children in the desert alone.

A slow, prideful smile broke through the stone mask of my face.

"If you go," I whispered, my hands reaching up to cup her jawline, "you don't go as an applicant, Amara. You go as the future matriarch of the Han family."

May you like

I looked toward the door where Jin-Woo was waiting in the shadows.

"Jin-Woo," I called out. "Prepare the presidential convoy for tomorrow afternoon. Deploy the heavy armor. If the Min family wants a meeting in Beverly Hills, we are going to give them a parade."
