Chapter 3: The Sanctuary of Iron
While the corporate war raged in the skyscrapers, my primary focus was Clara's safety. I moved her out of the Mendoza estate immediately, bypassing the traditional hospitals where my mother’s foundation held political influence. Instead, I brought her to the Vance Medical Sanctuary—a highly secure, private facility owned by Marcus Vance’s family, protected by round-the-clock private security.
I sat beside her bed, holding a warm cup of tea as the doctors finished treating the deep contusions on her legs. The medical report was definitive: she had suffered severe physical stress, but our unborn son was healthy, his strong, steady heartbeat echoing through the room via the fetal monitor.
"Gabriel," Clara whispered, her fingers wrapping tightly around mine, her skin finally regaining its natural warmth. "I was so scared. When they locked the door and took my phone, they told me you had met someone else in Madrid. They told me I was just a surrogate for the family name."

"I know, my love," I said, leaning down to press a gentle kiss against her forehead, my heart breaking at the memory of her bruises. "I am so sorry I didn't see through their timeline earlier. I let my responsibilities to the company blind me to the monsters in my own house. But I promise you, they will never step within a mile of you or our son again."
The door to the private suite opened, and Officer Davis, a trusted detective from the white-collar and domestic abuse unit, stepped inside with a legal notepad.

"Mr. Mendoza, Mrs. Mendoza," Davis said respectfully. "The district attorney has reviewed the audio file and the forensic signature reports. They have issued an emergency arrest warrant for Julian Mendoza for corporate forgery and grand larceny. However, your mother, Eleanor, is attempting to claim diplomatic and medical immunity through her foundation's board. She’s trying to catch a private flight to Zurich at dawn."
I stood up, my eyes flashing with a cold, absolute resolve. "She won't make the flight, Officer. I’ve already flagged her passport through the corporate travel portal. Marcus, call the airport authority. Let's show my mother exactly what happens when you try to run from a Mendoza who actually owns the runway."
