Chapter 4: The House of Cards Collapses
The air inside the main corporate boardroom of the Aranda Tower was thick with tension. It was nine o'clock on Thursday morning, forty-eight hours after Valeria’s escape from the mansion.
Doña Esther sat at the head of the long glass table, her face taut, her eyes rimmed with red despite the heavy makeup her assistants had applied. Beside her, Marcela was frantically typing on two different phones, her previous arrogance completely replaced by a blind, sweating panic.
Across from them sat the board of directors—twelve of the most powerful financial minds in the country—alongside three federal agents from the tax fraud division.
“This is an administrative error!” Doña Esther shouted, slamming her hand down on the glass. “My son has manipulated the server logs! The Aranda Foundation has never held unrecorded assets in Switzerland or the Caymans. This is a fabrication by a disgruntled executive who has lost his mind over an unstable woman!”

“The digital signatures on these wire transfers match your personal biometric key, Doña Esther,” the lead federal agent said, his voice completely indifferent to her social standing. “And according to the logs provided by the Securities Commission, these accounts were accessed from your residential IP address on Monday evening—the same night Dr. Mendoza visited the estate.”
Before Doña Esther could answer, the glass doors of the boardroom slid open.
Alejandro walked in. He wasn't wearing his usual perfectly tailored suit; he wore a simple black sweater, his sleeves rolled up, his expression cold and unyielding. Behind him walked Mateo Silva and four armed federal marshals.
“Alejandro!” Marcela gasped, standing up so fast her chair tipped backward onto the carpet. “You... you can’t be here. You’ve been suspended by the board!”
“The board doesn't have the authority to suspend the primary shareholder, Marcela,” Alejandro said, stepping to the end of the table. He didn't look at his sister; his eyes were fixed entirely on his mother. “Especially not a board whose majority seats have just been frozen due to an active criminal indictment for money laundering and human rights violations.”
Doña Esther stood up slowly, her chin held high, attempting to use the maternal authority that had governed Alejandro’s entire life. “You would destroy your father’s empire just to protect that... that peasant girl from Coyoacán? You are an Aranda, Alejandro! Without this company, you are nothing!”
“I am exactly what my father wanted me to be,” Alejandro said, pulling a leather folder from his arm and dropping it onto the center of the table. “A man who knows how to read a contract. This is the unredacted version of the 2024 corporate charter, Mother. The one you and Mendoza tried to alter while I was away.”
He opened the folder to reveal a single, notarized addendum. “My father didn't just leave thirty percent of the shares to my child. He left a clause stating that if any member of the core trust was found guilty of a felony involving moral turpitude against another family member, their shares would be automatically liquidated at book value and transferred to the victim’s estate.”
He looked at the federal agent. “Agent, do you have the secondary arrest warrants?”
The agent nodded, stepping forward and producing two white documents bearing the red seal of the federal court. “Doña Esther Aranda and Marcela Aranda, you are under arrest for the attempted forced medical termination of a pregnancy, unlawful containment, corporate forgery, and conspiracy to commit a felony.”
Marcela let out a sharp, hysterical shriek as a female marshal stepped forward, pulling her hands behind her back to click the steel handcuffs into place. “Mother! Do something! He’s bluffing! He won't let them take us!”
But Doña Esther didn't shout. She looked at her son, her face completely empty of life as she realized that the empire she had spent forty years building on secrets and blood had been dismantled by the very boy she had trained to be ruthless.
“You will regret this, Alejandro,” she whispered as the marshals led her toward the private executive elevator. “The family name will never recover from this scandal.”

“The family name is finally being cleaned, Mother,” Alejandro said, his voice steady as the elevator doors slid shut, cutting off his sister’s screams.
He turned to the remaining board members, who were staring at him in absolute silence. “Gentlemen, the markets open in thirty minutes. Let’s discuss the restructuring of the Aranda Group under the new primary trustee.”
