Chapter 1: The Echoes of a Stormy Night

Chapter 1: The Echoes of a Stormy Night
The silence inside Whitemore Manor was absolute, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the grandfather clock in the corner of the drawing-room. Alejandro Alcázar stood entirely paralyzed, his hand frozen mid-air as his gaze locked onto the small, star-shaped crimson mark behind the infant's ear. Eight years of agonizing grief, sleepless nights, and fruitless searches crashed over him in a single, breathless second.
"What did you just say, Rosa?" Alejandro’s voice was barely a whisper, yet it carried a terrifying weight that made the crystal chandelier above them seem to tremble.

Rosa clutched the baby tighter to her chest, her own hands shaking violently, but her eyes remained fierce and resolute. "It’s him, Mr. Alcázar. I know it in my heart, and this mark proves it. This is your son. The boy who was torn from his crib on that rainy night eight years ago."
"Don't listen to her, Alejandro! She’s out of her mind! She's a servant trying to create a delusion to extort us!" Beatriz screamed, her elegant composure completely disintegrating. She lunged forward, her manicured fingers clawing at the air to snatch the child away from Rosa, but Alejandro instantly stepped between them. His towering frame blocked her entirely, an impenetrable wall of protective fury.
"Touch her, Beatriz, and I will ensure you never see the light of day again," Alejandro warned, his voice dropped to a deadly, guttural tone. He slowly turned his head back to look at the baby, tears finally breaking free and tracking down his hollow cheeks. "My boy... my little Mateo..."
"You shouldn't look at it!" Beatriz hissed from behind him, her voice suddenly shifting from panicked denial to a cold, venomous malice. "You shouldn't look at it, Alejandro, because if you dig up the past, you will destroy everything your father built. You think I stole this child? You think I am the monster here? Ask yourself why your late father left me this manor, and why he made me swear to never let you find the truth!"
Alejandro’s breath hitched. His father, the formidable patriarch Don Carlos Alcázar, had died three years ago, taking many secrets to his grave. The relationship between Alejandro and his father had been fractured beyond repair after Mateo’s disappearance, with Don Carlos relentlessly demanding that Alejandro stop spending the family fortune on private investigators and accept that the boy was gone forever.
Rosa backed away toward the fireplace, keeping her body positioned as a shield over the newborn. Her sharp eyes noticed Beatriz’s hand slipping into the pocket of her black dress, subtly reaching for a small, silver velvet pouch.

"Mr. Alejandro," Rosa called out urgently. "Look at her hands! She’s trying to hide something!"
Before Beatriz could react, Alejandro grabbed her wrist, twisting it just enough to force her fingers open. The silver pouch fell onto the marble floor, spilling its contents: a forged birth certificate from an offshore clinic, a set of keys to a private medical vault, and a heavily encrypted USB drive.
