CHAPTER 4: The Boardroom Battle

CHAPTER 4: The Boardroom Battle
The next morning, the executive boardroom on the 80th floor of the Vance Global Tower was an absolute battleground. The massive mahogany table was surrounded by twenty of the city's most powerful investors, their faces grim as they reviewed the market volatility reports.
At the far end of the table sat Julian Sterling, Alexander's primary rival. He was a sleek, arrogant billionaire with a silver-rimmed pair of glasses and a smug smile that suggested he had already won the war.
"The clock is ticking, Alexander," Julian mocked, tapping his gold pen against the glass desk. "Vance Global’s stock dropped three points this morning because of the rumors surrounding your daughter’s... security mishap yesterday. The board members are nervous. They think you are too emotionally compromised by your personal life to lead this merger. Sign the transfer documents, and let Sterling Industries take the helm."
The board members murmured in anxious agreement. They didn't care about a missing four-year-old girl; they cared about their quarterly dividends.

Alexander sat at the head of the table, his arms crossed over a crisp black suit, his expression completely unreadable. He looked like an iceberg waiting for a ship to crash into it.
"You're very confident today, Julian," Alexander said smoothly, his voice echoing with an absolute, deadly calm. "You think because you paid off my head of logistics to leave my daughter downtown, you’ve cornered me."
Julian's smile faltered by a fraction, though he quickly covered it with a cold laugh. "That’s a heavy accusation, Alexander. Do you have a shred of evidence? If not, the board will vote to remove you as chairman for slander and mismanagement within the hour."
"Actually, he does," a clear, confident voice broke through the corporate tension.
The double oak doors of the boardroom swung open. Walking into the room, looking breathtakingly elegant in a tailored emerald-green business suit that Alexander had ordered for her that morning, was Clara. Her hair was neatly pinned up, and her posture was radiant with an unshakeable dignity. In her hand, she held a sleek digital drive.
"Who is this? A secretary?" Julian sneered, slamming his pen down. "Get her out of here!"
"This is Clara Harrison, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Vance Family Trust," Alexander announced, standing up to his full height. "And she has a presentation for the board."
Clara walked straight to the central projector console, completely ignoring Julian’s glare. She plugged the drive into the system, and instantly, a high-definition audio-video feed filled the massive screens on the wall.
It was a recording from the security cameras of L'Éclipse boutique from the previous afternoon. The video clearly showed Evelyn, the store manager, speaking frantically on a burner phone just minutes before Chloe wandered in. The audio, captured by the store's high-fidelity microphones, was crystal clear:
"...Yes, Mr. Sterling. The asset has been dropped off three blocks away by the logistics team. She’s wandering in the rain. I’ll ensure that if she tries to enter our boutique, she’s thrown out immediately to maximize the delay. Alexander won't find her until nightfall. Secure the board vote now."
The boardroom erupted into an absolute frenzy of outraged shouting. The investors jumped to their feet, staring at Julian Sterling with expressions of profound disgust. Industrial espionage was one thing, but orchestrating the endangerment of a child to manipulate a stock price crossed a legal line that would destroy any corporation associated with it.

"This is a fabrication! A deepfake!" Julian screamed, his face turning an ugly, bruised purple as he backed away from the table.
"The federal authorities are already downstairs, Julian," Clara said, her voice steady, carrying the raw power of a woman who had finally found her voice. "The forensic audit of your burner accounts was completed twenty minutes ago. You didn't just lose the merger, Mr. Sterling. You just lost your freedom."
