Chapter 5: The Birth of Freedom

Chapter 5: The Birth of Freedom
Three weeks after the fall of the Bennett dynasty, the private maternity wing of the Vance Medical Clinic was peaceful. The large windows looked out over a quiet, sunlit park where the first autumn leaves were beginning to turn golden.
Olivia lay in the comfortable bed, her face exhausted but radiant with a profound, unadulterated peace. In her arms, wrapped in a soft, organic cotton blanket, was her newborn son. He had a dusting of dark hair and clear, beautiful eyes that looked up at the world without a single trace of fear.
The door to the room opened quietly, and Marcus Vance stepped inside, carrying a small bouquet of wildflowers and a leather-bound folder.
“How is the captain of the new empire?” Marcus smiled, setting the flowers on the nightstand and looking down at the baby with a proud, protective expression.
“He’s perfect, Marcus,” Olivia whispered, her finger tracing the baby’s tiny cheek. “He sleeps so quietly. No monitors needed.”

Marcus sat in the chair beside the bed, opening the folder. “The court has officially approved the name change. His legal birth certificate has been issued under the name Leo Sterling-Vance. Jason has signed away all paternal rights in exchange for the district attorney dropping the secondary grand larceny charges. He’ll be spending the next five years in a federal facility, followed by mandatory restitution that will ensure he never owns a single share of stock again.”
Olivia let out a long, slow breath, a single tear of relief finally spilling over her eyelashes and splashing onto the blanket. “And Margaret?”

“The estate is being liquidated by the state asset recovery team to pay the back taxes,” Marcus explained gently. “She’s moved into a small, state-monitored apartment in the suburbs. The high-society circles have completely erased her name. The Bennetts are gone, Olivia. You’ve entirely scrubbed the ledger clean.”
Olivia looked down at little Leo, who let out a tiny, soft yawn before falling back into a deep sleep against her chest. The wealth that Jason and Margaret had tried to use as a weapon was gone, but the true wealth—the wealth of honor, safety, and an unbroken future—was sitting right here in her arms.
