CHAPTER 1: THE SECRET THAT SHATTERED AN ENTIRE FAMILY

The luxury showroom stood frozen.

Not a single person moved.

Thousands of dollars worth of crystal still glittered across the marble floor, but suddenly nobody cared anymore.

The sentence that came out of the little boy's mouth had become far more devastating than any broken dish.

“Because she got sick after you pushed her down the stairs.”

The manager's face instantly drained of color.

The prescription paper slipped from her fingers.

It floated slowly to the ground.

The rich woman who had mocked the child moments earlier stopped recording with her phone.

The old man stared at the manager in disbelief.

“What… did he just say?”

The little boy sniffled and wiped his eyes.

“My mommy said not to hate people.”

He looked at the old man.

“But she also said some people can hurt you and pretend they love you.”

The manager suddenly stepped backward.

“No.”

Her voice trembled.

“That isn't true.”

The old man's eyes narrowed.

“Emily…”

She looked up at him.

“Dad…”

His expression changed immediately.

Dad.

The entire store gasped.

The manager wasn't just an employee.

She was his daughter too.

The old man stared at her with growing horror.

“You knew Anna was alive?”

Emily opened her mouth but no words came out.

“Answer me!”

The little boy clutched his backpack tighter.

The old man looked at him again.

“What is your name, son?”

“Lucas.”

“How old are you?”

“Seven.”

The old man's eyes immediately filled with tears.

Seven years old.

Anna had been gone for exactly seven years.

Seven years without a single phone call.

Seven years believing she was dead.

Suddenly dozens of memories flooded his mind.

The arguments.

The screaming.

Emily constantly telling him Anna had abandoned the family.

Emily insisting Anna wanted nothing to do with them anymore.

Emily claiming Anna had become unstable.

Every single detail suddenly felt suspicious.

“Where is your mother now?”

Lucas pointed outside.

“In the parking lot.”

The old man didn't wait another second.

He ran.

Actually, he tried to run.

At seventy-three years old, his legs barely obeyed him anymore.

But adrenaline pushed him forward.

The automatic doors opened.

Everyone inside the showroom instinctively followed.

Phones were still recording.

The rich woman was now among the crowd too, her expression nervous.

Outside, under pouring gray skies, sat an old blue car.

Its paint was faded.

Its bumper was cracked.

It looked completely out of place among the luxury vehicles surrounding it.

Inside sat a woman with her head resting against the steering wheel.

Her hands trembled.

An oxygen tube rested beneath her nose.

The old man stopped breathing.

“Anna…”

The woman slowly lifted her head.

Time itself seemed to stop.

Seven years disappeared in an instant.

But life had not been kind to her.

Her once vibrant face looked pale.

Dark circles surrounded her eyes.

She had become thin.

Much too thin.

Tears immediately flooded her eyes.

“Dad…”

The old man collapsed to his knees.

“My God…”

He began sobbing uncontrollably.

“Anna… my little girl…”

She opened the car door carefully.

Lucas ran toward her.

“Mommy.”

She hugged him tightly.

Then she looked at her father.

“You're older.”

He laughed through tears.

“So are you.”

Neither of them knew whether to laugh or cry.

But then another figure appeared.

Emily.

She had followed everyone outside.

Anna's entire body instantly became tense.

Lucas noticed immediately.

He squeezed her hand.

Emily stopped several feet away.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Rain began falling.

Tiny drops at first.

Then heavier.

Finally Emily whispered.

“Anna…”

Anna stared at her.

No warmth.

No hatred.

Just exhaustion.

“What do you want?”

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

“I…”

She couldn't continue.

The old man stood up.

“You're going to explain everything.”

Emily looked trapped.

“Dad, this isn't the place.”

“Then where is the place?”

Her lips trembled.

“Please.”

“Seven years, Emily.”

He raised his voice.

“Seven years I believed my daughter was dead.”

Everyone nearby had gone silent.

Even strangers from neighboring stores were watching.

Emily looked around nervously.

“This is embarrassing.”

Anna laughed softly.

It wasn't a happy laugh.

It was the laugh of someone who had survived pain for too long.

“Embarrassing?”

She pointed at her oxygen tube.

“This is embarrassing.”

She pointed at Lucas.

“My son counting coins to buy medicine…”

She pointed at herself.

“Living in a car some nights…”

Then finally she pointed at Emily.

“And you being exposed?”

Anna shook her head.

“No.”

She smiled sadly.

“That's called consequences.”

Emily burst into tears.

“You don't understand.”

“Then explain.”

She opened her mouth.

Again.

And again.

But the truth refused to come out.

Finally someone unexpected spoke.

The rich woman.

The same woman who had mocked Lucas.

She slowly approached.

“I think she should explain.”

Everyone looked at her.

She lowered her eyes.

“I owe this family an apology too.”

Lucas blinked.

“Why?”

Her face collapsed with shame.

“Because I judged you.”

She kneeled in front of him.

“I'm sorry.”

Lucas looked at his mother.

Anna nodded softly.

“It's okay.”

The woman started crying immediately.

Such a simple sentence.

It's okay.

Words she herself had not heard in years.

Suddenly another voice echoed.

“Police are here.”

Everyone turned.

Apparently someone had called authorities after hearing accusations of attempted murder.

Two officers approached.

“Can someone explain what's happening?”

Nobody answered.

Until Lucas quietly said…

“My mommy needs medicine first.”

Everything stopped.

Again.

Anna looked down at him.

He smiled gently.

“Grandpa found us now.”

The old man instantly burst into tears.

Grandpa.

One word.

Seven years lost.

Seven years found.

At that exact moment, none of them knew…

A far bigger secret was about to destroy everything Emily had built.

Because hidden inside the old showroom office…

There was a locked safe.

And inside that safe…

May you like

Were documents proving someone had stolen millions from Anna years ago.

Someone who never expected her to come back alive.
