Chapter 2 - The Cradle of Geniuses

Five years passed in a blur of sleepless nights, formula bottles, and lines of complex code.

In a beautiful, sprawling villa on the outskirts of Munich, the atmosphere was vastly different from the cramped Brooklyn apartment Madeline had grown up in. Through her sheer brilliant mind and the strategic investment of her four million dollars, Madeline hadn't just survived; she had thrived. She had partnered with Harrison Croft, not as a desperate seller, but as an equal partner. Together, they founded Aegis Renewable Energy, utilizing the advanced phases of her mother’s patents that Nathan never even knew existed.

But Madeline’s greatest achievements weren't the multi-billion-dollar valuation of Aegis. It was the four children currently sitting around the massive oak dining table.

The quadruplets—two boys and two girls—were a genetic miracle, inheriting their mother's staggering intellect and, unfortunately for Nathan, his striking, unforgettable looks. But they possessed none of their father's weakness.

Liam, the eldest by three minutes, sat with a tiny screwdriver, carefully dismantling a broken drone. He was the strategist, possessing a frighteningly analytical mind. At five years old, he could already read corporate financial spreadsheets better than most college graduates.

Beside him was Charlotte, the hacker. Her small fingers flew across a modified tablet, her eyes reflecting lines of code. She had a natural, terrifying genius for cybersecurity and digital architecture.

Then came Ethan, the social chameleon. He was currently charming the housekeeper out of an extra cookie with a dimpled smile that could melt stone. He understood human psychology instinctively; he knew exactly what people wanted to hear and how to manipulate their emotions.

Finally, there was Chloe, the artist and designer. She was quiet, observing the world with large, intense eyes, sketching complex architectural blueprints that looked like advanced modern art.

"Mommy," Charlotte called out, her voice sweet but her expression deadpan. "I found him again."

Madeline walked into the room, holding a tray of fresh fruit. "Found who, sweetheart?"

"The man from the old files," Charlotte said, turning her tablet around. On the screen was a live press conference of Montgomery Dynamics. Nathan Montgomery looked older, lines of stress etched deep around his mouth, standing next to a visibly tense Vanessa Ashford. The headline read: Montgomery Dynamics Faces Historic Energy Crisis as Competitor Threatens Market Share.

Liam looked up from his drone, his dark eyes—so like Nathan's, yet so different—narrowing. "His company’s infrastructure is outdated, Mommy. They didn't implement the core stabilization algorithms from Grandma's original notes because they don't have the decryption keys. They are bleeding cash."

Ethan chewed on his cookie, a cold smile on his little face. "He looks scared. And the lady next to him is wearing fake diamonds. I checked the auction ledger from the Ashford estate sale last month. The real ones were liquidated to pay off a maritime lawsuit. She’s a fraud."

Madeline stared at her children, a mixture of pride and awe washing over her. She had never explicitly told them to hate Nathan Montgomery. She had only told them the truth when they asked about their father: that he was a man who chose money over love, and who had tried to erase their grandmother’s name. But these children, with their collective genius, had taken it upon themselves to investigate. They had formed a unified front.

"Harrison called," Madeline said quietly, setting the tray down. "The board of Montgomery Dynamics is looking for an emergency institutional investor to buy out a controlling forty percent stake. If they don't get it by the end of the quarter, they go into forced liquidation."

Liam stood up on his chair, looking at his siblings. "It's time to go back to New York, isn't it?"

Charlotte locked her tablet. "I've already bypassed their server security. I can drop their stock price another five percent with a single keystroke whenever you're ready, Mommy."

Ethan smiled smoothly. "I want to see his face when he realizes who we are."

Chloe handed Madeline a drawing. It was a beautiful, hyper-detailed sketch of a massive skyscraper, but the logo on top wasn't Montgomery Dynamics. It was Aegis. And underneath, Chloe had written in neat letters: Our New Home.

Madeline felt a tear slip down her cheek, but she wiped it away instantly, replaced by a steel resolve. "Pack your bags, my angels. We're going to New York."
