Chapter 9 - The Brightest Light

The wedding of Daniel Seo and Grace Bennett was the event Manhattan didn't see coming, but would never forget.

It did not take place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral or in a corporate ballroom. It took place on a warm, brilliant evening in July, on the manicured rooftop terrace of the Tribeca high-rise, looking out over the entire sweeping skyline of New York City.

The terrace was transformed into a paradise of white orchids, cascading greenery, and soft gold fairy lights that matched the stars beginning to appear in the summer sky. Fifty people sat on elegant silver chairs—the museum curators, Rachel Kim, Marcus Hale, and the community leaders from Queens and Flushing who had come to view Daniel not as a boss, but as a brother.

A string quartet played a modern, soaring melody as Grace walked down the aisle.

She looked absolutely radiant. She wore an off-the-shoulder gown of pure white silk that draped into a long, majestic train. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, and around her neck was the single black pearl necklace she had worn the night her life changed. She carried a small bouquet of white lilies, her face bright with a serene, absolute happiness.

Daniel stood at the altar, looking devastatingly handsome in a classic black tuxedo. As he watched her walk toward him, his hands, which had never trembled in front of enemies or weapons, shook slightly. His dark eyes were filled with tears of pure devotion.

When Grace reached his side, he took her hands in his. They were warm, solid, and completely free.

The minister smiled at them. "We are gathered here to witness the union of two souls who found each other in the dark, and together, chose to build a life in the light."

When it was time for the vows, Daniel looked directly into Grace’s eyes, his voice deep, clear, and vibrating with an emotion that silenced the entire rooftop.

"Grace," he said, his fingers intertwining with hers. "Three years ago, I was a man who believed the only way to survive in this city was to be colder and more ruthless than the world around me. Then I woke up in an alley, and the first thing I saw was your face. You didn't know who I was, but you gave me your warmth, your protection, and your care without asking for anything in return. For three years, I loved you in silence. Today, I promise to love you out loud. I promise to protect your dreams, to honor your strength, and to spend the rest of my life ensuring that no one ever makes you feel like you are anything less than my entire world."

Grace smiled through her tears, her voice beautiful and resonant. "Daniel, for five years I lived in a world where love was treated like a transaction, and my worth was measured by a name I didn't own. But you saw me when I was invisible. You protected me when I was broken, and you showed me that true power belongs to the man who uses his strength to shield others. I don't need a dynasty, Daniel. I just need you. I promise to be your home, your partner, and your light, for all the days of my life."

They exchanged simple bands of platinum.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared. "Daniel, you may kiss your bride."

Daniel pulled her into his arms, his mouth meeting hers in a deep, joyful kiss that erupted the entire crowd into a roar of cheers and applause. The strings swelled, and a sudden cascade of silver fireworks illuminated the sky above the Hudson River, casting a brilliant, blinding light over the new Mr. and Mrs. Seo.

As Daniel pulled back, looking down at his beautiful wife, he wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb, his face full of an open, radiant happiness the streets of New York had never seen on him before.

"The Parks told everyone you were worthless, Grace," he whispered against her lips as the city lights glittered around them like a sea of diamonds.

May you like

Grace laughed softly, wrapping her arms around his neck. "And what are we going to tell them, Daniel?"

Daniel smiled, his eyes locking onto hers with absolute, eternal certainty. "We're going to tell them that you are the most valuable thing this city has ever seen."
