Chapter 4: The Unraveling of the Empire
By 9:00 AM on Friday morning, the executive boardroom of Holloway Foods headquarters was in a state of absolute, unadulterated terror. The massive glass tower overlooking the Chicago River was surrounded by black SUVs bearing the seals of the Internal Revenue Service and the federal corporate compliance division.
Grant Holloway sat at the head of the conference table, his tie pulled loose, his hair disheveled as he frantically shouted into his speakerphone. "What do you mean the Cayman routing codes are blocked? That capital was moved to the secondary shell accounts three months ago! Evelyn’s lawyers shouldn't even know those accounts exist!"
"They didn't know, Grant," a calm, terrifyingly familiar voice spoke from the back of the room.
Grant slammed his phone down, turning sharply.
Judge Nathaniel Sterling stood in the doorway, flanked by Denise Walker and three senior forensic auditors from the federal trade commission. Behind them walked a woman wearing a tailored navy blazer, her pregnancy prominent but her posture radiating an untouchable, aristocratic confidence.

Evelyn walked into the boardroom of the company that had tried to starve her out, her eyes locking onto her husband with a cold, unyielding clarity.
"Evelyn," Grant stammered, standing up so fast his leather chair rolled back against the glass partition. "Look, we can settle this. The prenuptial agreement... we can throw it out. I’ll give you the lake house in Michigan. I’ll give you five million in cash. Just tell your... tell Judge Sterling to call off the federal inspectors. This is destroying our stock value!"
Evelyn walked to the foot of the table, leaning her hands flat against the polished mahogany. "Five million, Grant? That’s interesting. Because according to the secondary ledger your assistant forgot to delete from the logistics server, you’ve spent the last six months skimming forty-two million dollars from the Holloway distribution fund into a private accounts framework registered under Sloan Pierce’s name in Panama."
Grant’s face drained of color so fast he looked like a corpse in a tailored suit. "That’s... that’s corporate restructuring. It’s entirely legal."
"It's corporate embezzlement, Mr. Holloway," Denise Walker said, sliding a thick, blue-bound federal indictment across the table. "And unfortunately for you, your partner in crime is no longer maintaining a united front."
Grant frowned, his hands beginning to shake. "What do you mean?"
"Sloan Pierce spent forty-eight hours in a maximum-security county holding cell because your father’s attorneys couldn't clear the cash-only bail Judge Sterling set," Denise said, a ruthless smile touching her lips. "At 6:00 AM this morning, she signed a full administrative confession. She didn't just admit to the assault in the hallway, Grant. She turned over every single email, text message, and bank routing number you sent her detailing how you planned to hide your family’s marital assets from the court."
"She... she wouldn't," Grant whispered, his knees buckling as he sank back down into his chair.
"She did," Evelyn said, her voice smooth and entirely devoid of warmth. "She realized that a billionaire heir who lets his mistress take the fall for a public assault isn't a very reliable partner. She traded you for a reduced sentence, Grant."
Nathaniel Sterling stepped forward, placing a single, certified document in the center of the glass table. "This is a corporate seizure notice, Mr. Holloway. As of ten minutes ago, Sterling Harbor Holdings has purchased the majority debt notes for Holloway Foods’ primary shipping and distribution lines. We are calling the loans immediately. If your family cannot produce eighty-four million dollars by noon, the Sterling board will initiate a hostile takeover and remove you and your father from the executive structure entirely."

Grant looked up at the older man, his eyes wide with a sudden, suffocating panic. "You’re ruining my family, Sterling. For what? For a girl who didn't even know who you were a week ago?"
Nathaniel leaned down until his face was inches from Grant’s. "I am protecting my daughter, Mr. Holloway. Something your family clearly knows nothing about. You have three hours to pack your desk before the marshals lock the floor."
