Chapter 6 - The Truth Exposed

The private wing of the ABC Medical Center was quiet, save for the rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor connected to Camila. She was safely tucked under thick blankets, an oxygen mask over her face, her fever finally breaking thanks to the immediate medical intervention Daniel had secured.

Marisol sat in a chair beside the bed, holding Camila’s small, unpricked hand. She looked exhausted, her clothes still damp. Daniel walked into the room, carrying two cups of warm tea and a soft blanket, which he gently placed over Marisol’s shoulders.

“The doctors say she’s going to make a full recovery, Marisol,” Daniel said softly, sitting in the chair next to her. “The asthma attack was severe, but her lungs are clearing up.”

Marisol looked at him, her eyes heavy with unshed tears. “Why are you doing this, Señor Daniel? Why did you come for us? You’re a billionaire... we are just... nobody to you.”

Daniel took a deep breath, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out an old, worn photograph—the identical copy of the one Alejandro had kept in his wallet. It showed Alejandro smiling, his arm wrapped around a younger, radiant Marisol outside a bakery in Veracruz.

Marisol gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. “Where... where did you get this?”

“Alejandro was my younger brother, Marisol,” Daniel said, his voice thick with emotion. “I am Daniel Robles. The brother he always argued with, but the brother he loved. For four years, I’ve been looking for the girl who broke his heart by disappearing. I never knew... I never knew he left behind a piece of himself.”

Marisol’s tears finally overflowed. “He... he told me his family was powerful, that they would take the baby away if they found out I was pregnant. After the accident, I was so scared. I didn't want his family’s money; I just wanted my baby to be safe. When I got the job at your mansion through the agency, I didn't connect the names. I thought 'Robles' was just a common name. I never saw your face because you were always traveling or in meetings... until yesterday.”

Daniel reached out, gently covering her hand with his. “Alejandro loved you more than life itself. And Camila... she has his eyes. She has his stubborn spirit. You are not a maid in my house anymore, Marisol. You are family. This girl is a Robles. She is my niece, and she will have everything she ever deserves.”

The heavy door to the hospital room suddenly burst open. It wasn't a doctor. It was Renata, accompanied by her father, Ernesto Saavedra, a wealthy but notoriously unscrupulous real estate mogul.

“Daniel!” Renata snapped, her face twisted in anger. “What is the meaning of this? You left me at the mansion, you insulted my honor, and now you’re playing savior to this servant girl? My father is furious. The Saavedra-Robles merger is at stake!”

Daniel stood up slowly. The gentle uncle vanished, replaced by the ruthless billionaire businessman who had conquered the tech industry. He stepped between the Saavedras and the hospital bed, his presence commanding and terrifying.

“The merger is dead, Ernesto,” Daniel said coldly, looking directly at Renata’s father. “And your daughter’s freedom is about to be dead too.”

“What are you talking about, Daniel?” Renata laughed nervously. “You can’t break our engagement over a stupid maid!”

Daniel pulled out his smartphone and tapped a button, playing an audio recording. It was a crystal-clear recording from the hidden security cameras he had installed in the mansion's master hallway months ago for security—cameras Renata didn't know existed.

The audio played Renata’s voice: “Just put the bracelet under her mattress. The stupid bitch won't know what hit her, and Daniel will have no choice but to let her go. I want that peasant brat out of my sight.”

Renata’s face went entirely white. She stumbled back against her father.

“Furthermore,” Daniel continued, his voice cutting through the room like a blade, “I had my legal team do a deep dive into Saavedra Enterprises over the last two hours. I found the fraudulent offshore accounts you used to embezzle funds from your own investors. You didn't want to marry me out of love, Renata. You wanted my fortune to save your bankrupt family.”

Ernesto Saavedra grabbed his daughter’s arm, his own face pale. “Daniel... let’s not be hasty. We can settle this privately.”

“Get out of my sight,” Daniel said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. “The police are waiting for you downstairs in the lobby. If I ever see either of you near my family again, I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your lives in a federal prison.”
