Chapter 5: The Legal Avalanche

Chapter 5: The Legal Avalanche
The LED screen behind the podium suddenly flickered, cutting out Arthur Davenport’s graphics completely. In their place, a massive video file began to play.
It was the recorded affidavit of Marcus Vance, the safety inspector. His face was gaunt, his voice weak but clear as it echoed through the auditorium speakers: "My name is Marcus Vance. Ten years ago, I accepted a payment of two million dollars from Arthur Davenport to falsify the fire investigation report for the Carter Neuro-Lab. The fire was set intentionally using chemical accelerants provided by Davenport’s logistics firm to destroy Dr. Robert Carter's documentation and force his foreclosure..."

A wave of absolute shock rippled through the audience. Several high-profile investors immediately stood up and walked toward the exit doors, their phones pressed to their ears as they instructed their brokers to dump every share of Davenport stock they possessed.
"This is a fabricated video! It’s a deepfake!" Arthur Davenport shouted, his hands slamming onto the podium as he tried to regain control of the room. "Julian, you are committing corporate slander! I will sue your family into bankruptcy for this!"
"You can't sue a federal investigation, Arthur," Julian said, stepping onto the stage accompanied by three federal agents from the Corporate Fraud Division who had entered through the side doors. "The financial logs matching Marcus Vance’s confession were pulled directly from your primary server logs three hours ago under a federal warrant. The Department of Justice has already frozen your company's domestic accounts."
Chloe fell back against the stage curtain, her hands shaking so violently she could barely stand. She looked at the screen, then at the audience, and finally at Elena, who was standing by the podium, looking down at her with a calm, unblinking detachment.
"Elena, please," Chloe whispered, her elite composure completely shattering into a mask of pure terror. "We... we can make a deal. You can be the head of the department. We can give you a percentage! Don't do this to my family!"
"You thought an apron meant I had no voice, Chloe," Elena said, her voice carrying through the open microphone. "You thought throwing coins at my feet would make me forget who I was. But my father taught me that respect isn't something you buy with an inheritance. It’s something you earn by standing steady when the monsters try to burn your world down."
The lead federal agent stepped forward, pulling a pair of heavy handcuffs from his belt. "Arthur Davenport, you are under arrest for federal corporate fraud, conspiracy to commit arson, and intellectual property theft. Please step away from the podium and place your hands behind your back."
As Arthur was forced around, his arms pinned behind his back in front of the flashing cameras of dozens of news reporters, Chloe burst into hysterical tears, dropping her designer clipboard onto the stage floor with a loud, hollow clatter. The empire built on theft, humiliation, and smoke had completely collapsed in less than twenty minutes.
Elena carefully closed her father's journal, holding it tightly against her heart as Julian walked up beside her, placing a warm, supportive hand on her shoulder.

"We did it, Elena," Julian said softly.
"No, Julian," Elena replied, looking out at the clearing auditorium as the light of justice finally washed over the room. "My father did it. I just delivered the message."
