Chapter 3: The Ghost of the Alps

Chapter 3: The Ghost of the Alps

The downfall of Estelle Pierce and Juliette Vance was swift and brutal. Within forty-eight hours, the federal government froze every asset tied to the core Pierce family trust. Estelle was arrested in her master suite, led out in handcuffs in front of a barrage of media cameras. Juliette, breaking down under intense FBI interrogation, confessed to everything, desperately trying to trade information for a reduced sentence.
But Christopher didn't care about the corporate chaos or the headlines screaming his name.
While the legal storm raged in the United States, Christopher had already boarded his private medical transport jet. Beside him sat Emma, wrapped in a plush blanket, her health stabilized but her eyes still filled with a quiet anxiety. Mrs. Yvette sat across from them, holding a folder of medical coordinates.
They were flying to Switzerland. To the Alps. To find Lily.
"Daddy," Emma whispered, clutching a small stuffed bear Christopher had bought her at the airport. "Is the pretty lady in the picture really my mommy?"
Christopher shifted to sit next to her, pulling her onto his lap. He kissed the top of her head. "Yes, sweetie. She is your mommy. And she didn't leave us because she wanted to. Some bad people kept her away from us. But Daddy found her. We’re going to bring her home."
"Will she wake up?" Emma asked, her voice filled with a heartbreaking hope.
Christopher looked out the window at the clouds. The medical reports from the Swiss facility were bleak. Lily had been kept in a medically induced state for years, her records falsified to make it look like she was a Jane Doe with no family. Estelle’s money had bought the absolute silence of the clinic's corrupt administration.
"She has to, Emma," Christopher whispered, his fist tightening. "She has to."
Six hours later, the private jet landed in Geneva. A convoy of armored vehicles arranged by Christopher’s international legal team drove them deep into the snow-capped mountains of Valais. The facility, hidden behind high stone walls and pine trees, looked more like a luxury prison than a hospital.
When Christopher’s security team breached the front doors, the corrupt director of the clinic tried to bar their entry, babbling about private contracts and non-disclosure agreements.
Christopher didn't waste words. He didn't have the time. He simply signaled Liam, who pinned the director to his desk while Christopher pulled out the federal seizure warrant issued by Interpol.
"Where is Lily Evans?" Christopher demanded, his voice echoing off the sterile walls.
Ten minutes later, Christopher stood outside Room 404. He left Emma with Yvette in the hallway, needing to see her first. He turned the handle and stepped inside.
The room was quiet, bathed in the soft, gray light of the alpine winter. A humidifier hummed in the corner. And there, lying on a white bed, was Lily.
She looked older, her face thinner than he remembered, but she was still the beautiful, gentle soul who had captured his heart in a crowded university library a decade ago. Her long, dark hair was spread across the pillow like silk.
Christopher dropped to his knees beside the bed. He reached out, his large, calloused hand trembling as he covered her small, pale hand. It was warm. She was alive.
"Lily..." Christopher choked out, his tears finally breaking free, hot and heavy against her skin. "I'm so sorry. I believed their lies. I thought you left me. I let them hurt you... I let them hurt our daughter."
He buried his face in her blanket, weeping openly, the heavy armor of the billionaire tycoon completely disintegrating. He stayed like that for what felt like hours, letting years of grief, anger, and longing pour out of his soul.
Suddenly, a soft rustle broke the silence of the room.
Christopher froze. He felt a very faint, almost imperceptible twitch against his palm.
He slowly lifted his head. Lily’s long eyelashes fluttered. The monitors beside her bed began to beep at a slightly elevated pace. Her lips parted, dry and pale, as she fought against the heavy fog of the sedatives that the clinic had been pumping into her system for years.
"Ch... Chris...?" her voice was a raspy, fragile thread, barely audible.
Christopher gasped, his heart leaping into his throat. "Lily! Lily, I'm here. Don't strain yourself. I'm right here."
Her eyes slowly opened, focusing on his face. Tears welled in her green eyes, recognizing him instantly through the haze. "Chris... the baby... they took... they took my baby..."
"She’s safe, Lily. She’s right outside," Christopher frantically wiped her tears, his own falling freely. He rushed to the door and opened it. "Yvette, bring her in."
Emma stepped into the room, holding Yvette’s hand tightly. She looked at the woman in the bed. Lily turned her head slowly, her eyes locking onto the little girl. The maternal instinct, buried deep for eight years under layers of medicine, ignited like a wildfire.
"Emma...?" Lily breathed, her weak arms trembling as she tried to lift them.

Emma broke away from Yvette, running to the side of the bed. She climbed onto the mattress, carefully curling herself into her mother's side, burying her face into Lily’s shoulder. "Mommy... I knew you would come back for me."
Lily wrapped her weak arms around their daughter, sobbing softly, her face buried in Emma’s hair. Christopher leaned over both of them, enveloping his restored family in his arms. The cold mountains of Switzerland faded away, replaced by the dawn of a justice they had waited eight long years to see.
