Chapter 3 - The Fallout at the Estate

The news of the legal notice spread through the family like wildfire, but the true explosion occurred when Clara, the newlywed bride, woke up in the honeymoon suite of the Green Valley Estate. Her phone had been buzzing continuously with frantic texts from her mother.

Clara, still wearing her bridal satin robe, walked into the living area of the suite where her new husband, Julian, was reading the news.

"Clara, look at this," Julian said, holding up his phone. "The billing department of the estate just called me. They said the final payment authorization for the entire wedding weekend—the rooms, the catering, the security—has been canceled by the primary account holder. They're threatening to hold our luggage if the balance isn't settled immediately."

"What? That’s impossible!" Clara cried, her heart hammering against her ribs. "My parents paid for everything! They told me it was all taken care of!"

"No, Clara," Julian said, showing her the digital invoice the hotel had forwarded. "Look at the name on the original authorization form. It’s your grandmother, Denise Parker. And look at the timestamp of the cancellation—it was filed at 9:00 AM this morning."

The ConfrontationWithin an hour, Clara had driven straight to her parents' house, her mind a storm of confusion and anger. When she burst through the front doors, she found her parents in the midst of a screaming match, legal documents scattered across the living room floor.

"What did you do?!" Clara screamed, her voice shaking with tears of humiliation. "The venue just threatened to report us for fraud! They said Grandma canceled the payments! Why did Grandma cancel my wedding payments?!"

Susan turned to her daughter, her face tight with rage. "Your grandmother has lost her mind, Clara! She’s trying to ruin our lives because of a minor misunderstanding at the door yesterday! She’s evicting us from our house!"

"A misunderstanding?" Clara froze, looking from her mother to her father. "What happened at the door yesterday? My bridesmaids told me they saw Grandma outside before the ceremony, but when I asked you, Mom, you told me she felt sick and decided to stay home!"

Richard couldn't look his daughter in the eye. He stared at his shoes, the weight of his mother's sudden retaliation crushing his spirit.

"We... we told her she wasn't on the guest list, Clara," Richard muttered quietly.

Clara stared at her parents in absolute horror. "You did what? You turned my grandmother away from my wedding? The woman who literally paid for my tuition, the woman who bought my dress, the woman who funded this entire day?!"

"She didn't fit the image we were trying to project, Clara!" Susan yelled, her true, ugly nature completely breaking through her high-society facade. "We were trying to secure a partnership with the Vance family for your father's business! We didn't need an old woman in an outdated dress reminding everyone of our humble beginnings!"

"You didn't want her image, but you took her money," Clara said, her voice dropping into a disgusted whisper. "You are monsters. Both of you."

Clara turned on her heel and stormed out of the house, leaving her parents alone in the ruins of their greed.
