Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Beast

Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Beast

The silence inside the luxury VIP hospital suite was more suffocating than the heat of the gala downstairs. Marcus Thorne stood frozen, his eyes locked onto his wife, Khloe, who was curled on the cold floor. Her white maternity gown, meant to symbolize the pure joy of their impending parenthood, was now rumpled and stained with the spilled water from the overturned side table. Her hands were frantically pressed against her seven-month-pregnant belly, her lips moving in silent, desperate prayers for their unborn son.
"Marcus, please!" Isabella’s voice pierced the silence, a shrill, manufactured sob escaping her lips. She took a step toward him, her hands trembling as she reached for the lapels of his tuxedo. "She’s insane! She saw me coming up here to bring her some water from the gala, and she flew into a jealous rage. She threw the glass at me! I only pushed her away to defend myself. You know how volatile she’s been lately with the pregnancy hormones!"
Marcus didn't look at Isabella. His gaze was entirely fixed on his phone screen. The video clip sent by his head of security, Liam, was playing in high definition.
The security footage didn't lie. It didn't have biases. It didn't listen to sweet, manipulation-laced whispers.
On the screen, Marcus watched in horrific clarity as Isabella cornered Khloe. He saw the cold smirk on Isabella’s face. He heard the muffled audio of Isabella telling Khloe to “smile for the cameras, have the baby, and disappear.” But the breaking point—the moment that shattered Marcus’s soul into a million jagged pieces—was watching Isabella deliberately lift her foot and drive the pointed toe of her designer heel straight into the side of Khloe’s pregnant abdomen.
A dark, terrifying aura enveloped Marcus. The wealthy, composed billionaire tycoon who had ruled the corporate world with a calculated mind disappeared. In his place stood a monster born of pure rage and immense guilt. For months, he had allowed Isabella to hang around the fringes of his life, blinded by a past connection and the clever web of lies she had spun to make Khloe look like the insecure, problematic wife. He had been a fool. An arrogant, blind fool.
"Marcus?" Isabella whispered, her fake tears drying up as she noticed the terrifying change in his expression. The dangerous, icy stillness radiating from him made her step back instinctively.
Marcus slowly slipped the phone back into his tuxedo pocket. When he raised his eyes to meet Isabella’s, she felt a primitive instinct of survival scream inside her brain. His eyes weren't just angry; they were dead.
"Get away from her," Marcus whispered. The tone was low, vibrating with a menace that caused the gala coordinator standing by the door to tremble.
"Marcus, I—"
"If you take one more step toward my wife, Isabella," Marcus said, his voice dropping an octave, "I will forget every law, every shred of my civilization, and I will personally ensure you never walk again."
Isabella choked on her breath, stumbling backward against the wall.
Marcus completely ignored her, dropping to his knees on the glass-strewn floor. He didn't care about the sharp shards slicing through the expensive fabric of his trousers or cutting into his knees. All that mattered was Khloe.
"Khloe... Khloe, look at me," he pleaded, his voice cracking, stripped of all its usual authority. He reached out, his large hands trembling violently as he gently cradled her face. "I'm here. I'm so sorry. God, Khloe, I'm so sorry."
Khloe opened her eyes, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. The pain in her abdomen was a white-hot iron, but the terror in her heart for her baby was worse. "Marcus... the baby... please save our baby... she kicked him... she hurt him..."
"I know, I know. Shhh, don't talk," Marcus franticly pressed the emergency call button on the hospital wall repeatedly, his calm demeanor completely shattered. "Liam!" he roared toward the open door.
Liam, the head of security, rushed into the room along with three medical personnel who had been alerted by the emergency system.
"Get the medical team to stabilize my wife right now!" Marcus commanded the doctors, before turning his ferocious gaze to Liam. "And as for her—" he pointed a trembling, furious finger at Isabella, who was trying to quietly slip out of the suite. "Take her. Put her in the holding room downstairs. If she tries to leave, use whatever force necessary. Call the police. Hand over the unedited security footage. Charge her with attempted murder of an unborn child and aggravated assault."
"Marcus, you can't do this!" Isabella screamed as Liam and another large security guard grabbed her arms, pinning them behind her back. "We have history! Your mother loves me! You can't ruin my life for her!"
"Your life is already over, Isabella," Marcus said, his voice cold and flat. "I will spend every penny of the Thorne empire to ensure you rot in a cell for the rest of your miserable days."
As Isabella was dragged out of the room, her screams echoing down the VIP corridor, the medical team crowded around Khloe. They carefully lifted her onto a gurney, checking her vitals.
"Mr. Thorne, her heart rate is spiking, and we are detecting early signs of placental abruption due to the blunt force trauma," the chief obstetrician said, his face grim. "We need to move her to the emergency operating room immediately. We may have to deliver the baby via emergency C-section to save both of them."

Khloe gasped, her grip tightening on Marcus’s hand with terrifying strength. "Marcus... don't leave me... please..."
"I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere," Marcus vowed, his tears finally breaking free, falling onto their joined hands. He walked alongside the gurney as they rushed her down the hallway, the bright lights of the hospital blurring above them. He looked down at his wife, realizing with brutal clarity that in his quest to protect his corporate kingdom, he had almost allowed the true treasure of his life to be destroyed.
