Chapter 3: The Price of Treachery

Chapter 3: The Price of Treachery

The next morning, the financial and social elite woke up to a catastrophic scandal. Marcus Thorne did not cover up the incident; instead, he weaponized it. He released the security footage directly to the district attorney’s office and allowed a prominent investigative journalist to break the story.
The headlines were brutal: “Billionaire Heir’s Secretive Ex-Lover Arrested for Brutal Assault on Pregnant Wife inside Luxury Hospital Suite.”
The public outrage was instantaneous. Isabella’s family’s cosmetic empire saw its stock prices plunge by thirty percent within hours of the market opening. Sponsors pulled out, and high-society events cancelled the Rossi family’s invitations. Isabella’s father desperately tried to call Marcus fifty times, but every call was automatically blocked.
Inside the high-security women’s detention center, Isabella sat on a cold steel bench, stripped of her red designer dress and forced into a coarse orange jumpsuit. Her manicured nails were chipped, and her hair was a tangled mess.
The heavy iron door opened, and Liam, Marcus’s head of security, walked in, accompanied by a notary public. He laid a thick stack of legal documents onto the metal table.
"Where is Marcus?" Isabella demanded, rushing to the table, her eyes frantic. "Why hasn't he come to bail me out? This is a misunderstanding! I have a medical condition! I was stressed! He can't leave me here with these... these criminals!"
"Mr. Thorne will never see you again, Isabella," Liam said flatly, his voice devoid of any sympathy. "I am here on his behalf to present you with your new reality."
Liam pushed the first document forward. "This is a comprehensive asset freeze and civil lawsuit filed by Thorne Global for the damages you caused to their reputation, alongside a multi-million-dollar lawsuit for the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon Mrs. Khloe Thorne."
"He can't sue me! My family will fight this!"
"Your family is currently liquidating their assets to prevent bankruptcy, Isabella," Liam replied calmly. "Your father has already issued a public statement condemning your actions and officially disinheriting you to save his remaining business. You are completely on your own."
Isabella fell back into her chair, her face draining of all color. "No... no, my father wouldn't do that..."
"He did," Liam said, pushing another document forward. "And this is the official indictment from the District Attorney. They are refusing bail due to the high-profile nature of the crime and the video evidence. They are seeking the maximum penalty for attempted feticide and first-degree aggravated assault. You are looking at fifteen to twenty years in a maximum-security prison."
Isabella began to scream, a hysterical, ugly sound that echoed off the concrete walls. She grabbed the papers and tore them, throwing the pieces into the air. "I won't sign anything! Tell Marcus I will tell the press everything! I will ruin him!"
"There is nothing left to tell, Isabella. The world already knows exactly who you are," Liam said, standing up and straightening his suit jacket. "Enjoy your stay. It’s going to be a very long twenty years."
Meanwhile, at the Thorne Global headquarters, a different kind of execution was taking place.
Marcus sat at the head of the boardroom table. His face was pale from lack of sleep, but his eyes were filled with an unshakeable, ruthless focus. Across from him sat the board of directors, and at the far end sat Victoria Thorne, looking older and more fragile than she ever had before.
"As majority shareholder and CEO of Thorne Global," Marcus announced, his voice echoing with absolute authority, "I am enacting the legacy morality clause written into our corporate charter. Effective immediately, Victoria Thorne is stripped of her position as honorary chairperson of the Thorne Foundation."
"Marcus, you can't do this to your own mother!" Victoria gasped, her voice trembling. "I built that foundation!"
"You used that foundation to fund Isabella’s lifestyle and facilitate her access to my life," Marcus countered coldly. "Furthermore, your monthly stipend from the Thorne family trust will be reduced to the absolute legal minimum required by our ancestral contract. You will be relocated from the main estate to the private cottage in the northern countryside. You will have no staff, no corporate driver, and no access to the company’s accounts."
The board members sat in absolute silence. No one dared to speak up for Victoria. They had seen the footage; they knew Marcus was a man possessed by a righteous fury, and anyone who stood in his way would be crushed.

Victoria looked around the room, realizing she had completely lost her throne. She had thought she could control the empire by controlling her son’s marriage, but she had only succeeded in alienating the only family she had left. She slowly stood up, her head bowed, and walked out of the boardroom in complete silence.
Marcus closed the folder in front of him. "The meeting is adjourned. I have to go to the hospital to see my wife."
