Chapter 5: The Fall of the House of Sterling

Chapter 5: The Fall of the House of Sterling
The revelation of the international money laundering scheme broke the defense completely. Evelyn’s lawyers immediately withdrew from the case, refusing to risk their own legal licenses representing a client facing federal racketeering charges.
Within forty-eight hours, the custody battle was over. The judge granted Daniel sole legal and physical custody of Lily, with a permanent restraining order preventing Evelyn from coming within one thousand yards of the child or the Harper estate. Furthermore, the prenuptial agreement was declared null and void due to Evelyn’s criminal fraud, leaving her with absolutely nothing from the Harper fortune.
As Evelyn was led out of the federal courthouse in handcuffs to await her sentencing hearing, she spotted Grace standing on the steps, holding Lily’s hand. Evelyn stopped, her eyes wild with rage.
"You think you've taken my place?!" Evelyn screamed, the police officers pulling her forward. "You're just a servant! You'll always just be the help!"

Grace didn't answer. She simply adjusted Lily's winter scarf to shield her from the cold wind, turning her back on the woman who had traded her family for greed.
The walk back to the estate’s private car was quiet. Once inside, Daniel let out a long, shuddering sigh, the immense weight that had crushed his chest for months finally evaporating. He looked at Arthur, who sat in the front passenger seat, and then at Grace and Lily in the back.
"It's over," Daniel whispered, a genuine smile breaking across his face for the first time in a year. "The trust funds are secure, the charity accounts have been reimbursed, and my daughter is safe."
"We are home, Papa," Lily said, clapping her small hands together.
When they arrived back at the Harper mansion, the atmosphere had completely shifted. The heavy, oppressive air that Evelyn had brought into the house was gone. The grand entrance foyer felt warm, light, and filled with a sense of fresh beginnings.
Arthur helped Grace with her coat, giving her a respectful nod. "Welcome back to a peaceful home, Miss Collins."

"Thank you, Arthur," Grace said, her eyes shining with gratitude. "For everything. You saved us."
"I merely ensured the camera was recording the truth, Miss Grace," the old butler replied with a rare, warm smile. "The truth has a beautiful way of taking care of itself."
