Chapter 8 - The Purge of the Legacy

The fallout from the press conference was swift and total. The public sentiment shifted instantly, transforming Ethan and me into symbols of justice and enduring love. Blackwood Hotels stock skyrocketed, reaching an all-time high as consumers rallied behind Ethan’s fiercely protective stance.
Tyler was remanded in custody without bail, facing charges of felony stalking, child endangerment, and attempted aggravated assault. With the live broadcast footage and my detailed notebook, the family court officially terminated his parental rights two weeks later, granting me sole legal and physical custody of Lily and Emma, with Ethan signing on as their official legal guardian.
But the final piece of business remained inside the mansion.
Two days after the trial concluded, Ethan and I sat in the grand boardroom of the Blackwood corporate headquarters. The board of directors sat in absolute silence as Ethan tossed a thick, leather-bound ledger onto the center of the table.
"This is the forensic audit of the Blackwood Charitable Foundation," Ethan announced, looking at the terrified board members. "For the past seven years, my mother, Eleanor Blackwood, has been laundering money through the New York arts initiative to cover her personal gambling debts and illegal offshore investments. And she did so with the quiet compliance of three members of this board."
He pointed directly at the vice chairman and two senior directors. Their faces turned gray.
"You have ten minutes to sign your voluntary resignations and transfer your shares back to the corporate treasury at current book value," Ethan said, his voice quiet, cold, and utterly final. "If you refuse, the federal prosecutors standing outside that door will arrest you before you can leave the building."
Within five minutes, the papers were signed. The corrupt elements that had held the Blackwood empire hostage for a generation were purged.
That evening, we returned to the estate. As the SUV pulled up to the portico, we saw a silver limousine being loaded with luggage. Eleanor Blackwood stood on the steps, wearing a long mink coat, her face older, defeated, and stripped of all its former majesty.
Ethan stepped out of the car, helping me down. He looked at his mother for a long moment. There was no hatred left in his eyes—only a profound, liberating indifference.

"Your allowance will be paid into a restricted trust account in a quiet village in France, Mother," Ethan said calmly. "You are banned from entering the United States, and you are permanently stripped of the Blackwood corporate title. You will never see Noah, Lily, or Emma again. You wanted to protect the family name; now you will live in exile to ensure you don't stain it further."
Eleanor looked at Ethan, then at me, her lips trembling as if she wanted to speak, to offer some final venomous curse. But looking at the united front we presented, she realized she had nothing left to fight with. Without a word, she turned, stepped into the limousine, and vanished into the dark winter night.
