Chapter 6 - The Wall Street Showdown

The boardroom on the 50th floor of the Blackthorne Tower was a masterpiece of glass and steel, overlooking the grey expanse of New York Harbor. The air inside was thick with corporate anxiety. Twelve billionaires and high-ranking executives sat around a massive quartz table, their eyes fixed on the empty chair at the head of the room.
The heavy double doors swung open, and Julian Blackthorne walked in. He wore a flawless, three-piece charcoal suit, his presence commanding instant, terrified silence. Behind him walked Sloane Avery and Hannah Mercer.
Donald Sterling, an elderly, wealthy board member with silver hair, cleared his throat nervously. “Julian... we were just discussing the recent market volatility. The Moretti syndicate has made a very generous offer for our shipping assets—”
“Silence,” Julian said. He didn't sit down. He stood at the head of the table, leaning forward, resting his hands on the quartz surface. His winter-gray eyes scanned the room, locking onto Sterling. “Donald. You’ve served this company for twenty years. My father gave you your first seat on this board.”
“Julian, the market pressures—”
“You sold your shares to Vincent Moretti at 2:00 AM yesterday morning through a shell company in Geneva,” Julian interrupted, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. “You thought the encryption was unbreakable. You thought Sloane wouldn't find the transaction.”
Sloane tossed a heavy stack of documents onto the center of the table. “These are the tracking logs from the Swiss Federal Banking Authority. Donald Sterling has been taking bribes from the Moretti family for eighteen months, providing them with internal transit routes for our shipping yards.”
The room erupted into shocked murmurs. Sterling went entirely white, his hands shaking as he looked at the evidence.
“You didn't just betray the company, Donald,” Julian said, his voice vibrating with pure, unadulterated menace. “You gave the Morettis the route data that allowed them to track a nurse and a five-year-old child from Bellevue Hospital to my restaurant. You put my daughter’s life in danger.”
“Daughter?” one of the board members gasped, looking at Hannah.
“Effective immediately,” Julian announced, “Donald Sterling is removed from this board. His assets within Blackthorne Developments are frozen under the federal anti-racketeering statutes. And as for the rest of you...” Julian looked around the room, “...if anyone else is thinking about taking Moretti money, I suggest you look out the window.”

Down below in the harbor, two massive container ships bearing the Moretti logo were currently being boarded by federal coast guard agents, their hulls seized for illegal weapons smuggling—an anonymous tip Julian had delivered to the authorities hours earlier.
“The Moretti family is finished in New York,” Julian stated, his voice ringing with absolute finality. “This company belongs to me. And it will belong to my daughter. Meeting adjourned.”
