Chapter 11 - The Proposal on the Ice

By the time spring rolled around, our life had settled into a beautiful, rhythmic harmony. Ethan and I had spent months dating properly—away from the cameras, rediscovering the deep intellectual and emotional connection that had first brought us together. We were no longer the damaged young adults who had been torn apart by malice; we were mature, resilient parents who had chosen to forgive and rebuild.

On a crisp April evening, Ethan took me to the Millennium Park ice rink, which he had rented out completely for the night. The city skyline rose around us, illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights, reflecting perfectly on the smooth, dark ice.

We skated hand-in-hand under the stars, our laughter echoing in the empty arena. I felt younger than I had in years, the heavy weight of protection finally lifted from my shoulders.

Suddenly, Ethan slowed down, pulling me to the center of the rink. The overhead lights shifted, softening into a warm, golden glow, and our favorite classical melody began to play softly over the speakers.

"Sophia," Ethan said, his voice deep and thick with a profound emotion. He took both of my hands in his, his gray eyes shining with an intensity that made my heart race. "Five years ago, I stood in a church and let a contract dictate my life. I let fear and manipulation take away the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I lived in total darkness without you."

He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. When he opened it, a flawless, emerald-cut diamond ring caught the light—not a Montgomery family heirloom, but something simple, modern, and uniquely beautiful.

"I don't want a merger, Sophia. I don't want an alliance," Ethan said, dropping to one knee on the cold ice, his eyes locked on mine. "I want a life with the woman who fought dragons for my sons. I want to spend every single day of the rest of my life proving to you that you are my anchor, my home, and my absolute truth. Sophia Vance... will you marry me again?"

The tears came freely now, warm and joyful against the cool night air. I looked down at the man who had torn his own world apart to protect us, the man who had become the father our sons deserved, and the love of my life.

"Yes, Ethan," I whispered, leaning down to wrap my arms around his neck. "Yes, a thousand times over."

As he slid the ring onto my finger and lifted me into a breathless, passionate kiss, a sudden cheer erupted from the side of the rink. I pulled back, laughing, to see Leo, Liam, and Lucas standing by the barrier with our nanny, waving small sparklers in the air, their faces lit up with pure happiness.
