Chapter 7 - The Trap is Sprung

Evelyn’s world shattered. “What do you mean she took him? He’s in a sterile isolation ward! If he’s exposed to the outside air without his medication, his immune system will collapse!”
“She used a forged court order claiming she was still his legal guardian to bypass the secondary nursing staff,” Clara explained, her voice tight with anger. “We’ve already notified the police, but she vanished with him in an unmarked medical transport.”
Seconds later, Evelyn’s phone rang. It was an unknown number. She answered it immediately.
“Where is my brother, Patricia?!” Evelyn screamed into the phone, losing her carefully maintained composure.
“He’s safe, for now,” Patricia’s voice came through, cold and completely unhinged. “But he won't be for long if you don't do exactly what I say. You and your billionaire boyfriend thought you could ruin me? The police are looking for me for the embezzlement. I have nothing left to lose, Evelyn.”
“What do you want?” Evelyn sobbed, Nathan gripping her hand tightly, his eyes blazing with a calculated fury as he signaled Ben to trace the call.
“I want the original journal and the medical report you received today,” Patricia demanded. “I know your father’s old lawyer sent it to you. Bring it to the abandoned Carter shipping warehouse on Pier 42. Come alone. If I see Nathan Brooks, or a single police car, I will stop Noah’s oxygen tank. You have thirty minutes.”
The line went dead.

Evelyn collapsed against Nathan, her chest heaving. “I have to go, Nathan. I can’t lose Noah. He’s all I have left of my real family.”
Nathan grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. His voice was absolute, commanding, yet laced with a fierce protectiveness. “You are not going alone, Evelyn. I am not letting you walk into a trap. Ben just traced the signal—she’s definitely at Pier 42. I have an elite private tactical team that moves faster than the city police. We are going together, and we are bringing your brother home.”
