Chapter 9 - Healing from the Storm

Six months later, the dark clouds that had hung over Evelyn’s life had completely vanished, replaced by the bright, clear sky of a new beginning.

Noah’s health had dramatically improved. Thanks to the advanced, uninterrupted treatments funded by Nathan’s foundation, his bone marrow disorder was in complete remission. He was currently running around the expansive garden of Nathan’s country estate, his cheeks flushed with healthy color as he chased a puppy.

Evelyn stood on the glass veranda, watching her brother laugh. She felt a profound peace that she hadn't experienced since her father was alive. Carter Industries had been fully restored to her name, and under her leadership, Aura Designs had grown into a prominent, flourishing brand. Patricia and Victor Lang had been sentenced to life in prison, their assets liquidated to pay back the stolen inheritance.

A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, warm chest. Evelyn smiled, leaning her head back against Nathan’s shoulder.

“You’re thinking too loud again,” Nathan murmured softly into her ear, his breath warm against her skin.

“Just thinking about how much can change in half a year,” Evelyn said, turning around in his embrace to face him. She looped her arms around his neck, looking into those brilliant blue eyes that had once terrified her but now represented her entire world. “Six months ago, I was running barefoot in the rain, terrified for my life. Now, I have everything I ever dreamed of.”

Nathan looked down at her, his expression filled with an intense, unconditional devotion. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. Opening it, he revealed a breathtaking, flawless sapphire ring that matched the color of his eyes.

“You’ve spent your whole life fighting to protect everyone else, Evelyn,” Nathan said, his voice dropping into a deep, emotional register. “Let me protect you for the rest of our days. Marry me.”

Tears of pure joy welled in Evelyn’s eyes. She didn't hesitate for a single second. “Yes, Nathan. A million times, yes.”
